Privacy Policy

NL Tradepost respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your choices. We operate in Canada and handle personal information in accordance with applicable privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) where it applies.

1. Who we are

NL Tradepost operates the nltradepost.ca website and related services (the “platform”). For privacy inquiries, contact hello@nltradepost.ca.

2. Information we collect

Depending on how you use the platform, we may collect:

  • Account information: name, email address, password (stored in hashed form by our auth provider), role (homeowner or contractor), and optional phone, city, and contact preferences.
  • Contractor profile information: business name, trade, service area, bio, photos, credentials you choose to display, contact details, and membership status.
  • Job information: trade needed, location, job details, and contact information when you post a job.
  • Payment information: billing name, email, and business name for membership checkout. Card numbers are processed by Stripe; we do not store full card details on our servers.
  • Usage and technical data: IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed, and similar logs needed to secure and operate the site.
  • Communications: messages you send to us for support or reporting.

3. How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • Create and manage accounts and authenticate users.
  • Display contractor profiles and job postings to other users.
  • Process membership payments and maintain billing records.
  • Provide customer support and respond to inquiries.
  • Improve, secure, and troubleshoot the platform.
  • Send service-related notices (for example account confirmation, password reset, or membership renewal reminders).
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.

We do not sell your personal information to lead brokers or data brokers.

4. Legal basis and consent

We collect and use personal information with your consent where required, and otherwise as necessary to provide the services you request, for legitimate business purposes, or as permitted by law.

When you create an account or complete membership checkout, you confirm that you have read this Privacy Policy and our applicable terms.

5. When we share information

We may share information with:

  • Other users: contractor profiles and job details are visible to other platform users as intended by the product. Contact details you place on a profile or job may be seen by others.
  • Service providers: vendors that help us run the platform, such as Supabase (hosting and database), Stripe (payments), and email delivery providers. They process data on our instructions and under contractual safeguards.
  • Legal and safety: regulators, law enforcement, or others when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security.
  • Business transfers: a successor entity if NL Tradepost is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to this policy.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and local storage as needed to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand basic site usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may limit some features.

7. Retention

We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. We may retain certain records after account closure where required for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Please use a strong password and keep it confidential.

9. Your rights and choices

Subject to applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information. You may also withdraw consent where processing is consent-based, though that may limit your ability to use certain features.

The platform is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version with a new “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated by email or a notice on the site where appropriate.
